The international art world pays tribute to one of the most prominent artists Spain ever had, Eduardo Chillida. The works coming from the exhibition ‘Homage to Chillida’ organized by the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao in 2006, will be sold at Christie’s London on the 25th and 26th of June. Moreover, works by 45 different international artists united by their admiration for the Spanish sculptor, such as Miquel Barceló, Anish Kapoor or David Hockney among others, will be shown to public and sold at auction as well. We are honored to bring to London the exceptional collection ‘Homage to Chillida’. First showed at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao in 2006, the exhibition featured works by a wide range of major international artists, who made work in response to the Basque master Eduardo Chillida (María García Yelo, Director, Post-War and Contemporary Art, Christie’s Spain). The industrial character of Chillida’s sculptures hide a deep material and form study that take his creations beyond what can be perceived at first sight. A Profound knowledge of metaphysics, philosophy and theory, questioned the artist’s work during his entire career, and pushed him to test a broad variety of mediums, sizes and metarials. Time, light and space are the key factors that define such outstanding sculptures located in many open spaces around the country.
Moreover, it is to mention that Ordovás Gallery in London presented as well on the 6th of June an exhibition of the Basque artist’s small scale work. As the son of the artist, Ignacio Chillida, mentioned, It has been some time since there was an exhibition of this nature dedicated to Eduardo Chillida in London.
